Argentine trade secretary to visit Azerbaijan in June
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez has instructed Trade Secretary Guillermo Moreno to visit Azerbaijan with a business mission in June, Argentine newspaper Diario Buenos Aires reported with reference to the trade secretariat.
In the coming weeks Moreno plans to determine the make-up of the mission. It will include representatives of companies working in the fields of agriculture and processing of agricultural produce, metallurgical industry, hypermarket networks, and businesses.
According to Diario Buenos Aires, Argentina`s government is seeking alternative markets to purchase oil, as well as to increase export of domestic goods, particularly agricultural products and food. The trade secretary intends to hold talks with the Azerbaijani government for this purpose.
The newspaper said that the economy of Azerbaijan, which is rich in energy resources and is experiencing a period of dynamic development, relies mainly on oil exports, as well as machine-building, oil refining and chemical industries. After launching the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline Azerbaijan took an important place in the energy sector, and today, provides the energy market with one million barrels of oil per day, the newspaper said.
Azerbaijan opened its embassy in Argentina in 2010. In recent years, the two countries have been actively developing bilateral relations, and mutual visits are being paid at different levels.
Argentine Foreign Minister Hector Timerman during his visit to Azerbaijan in early March expressed his country`s interest in deepening cooperation with the South Caucasus republic and its intention to open an embassy in Baku.
