Azerbaijan aims to improve tax laws

Azerbaijan will improve its tax legislation, Tax Minister Fazil Mammadov said at a forum, "Tax System of Azerbaijan: realities and prospects", held in Baku on Thursday.

"First and foremost, we are working to ensure that the taxation system, which is the main requirement for successful implementation of plans for the long-term strategic development of the country, is stable and predictable," Mammadov told the event.

He said that one of the important issues in this regard is to complete the process of improving the tax legislation.

"About 11 years have passed since the Tax Code was adopted, and the country's legislation has significantly improved in this period. [But] we think that we should reconsider the tax legislation in the context of new economic relations and rapid pace of development," he said.

Mammadov said that a broad discussion over the Tax Code began in January-February with leading experts, business representatives and relevant state agencies.

"We think that by working closer with public organizations and business circles to improve the process of tax legislation and studying their proposals, we will be able to make certain changes in tax legislation in the medium term," he said.
