Baku, Chisinau to boost economic ties
Azerbaijan and Moldova will step up economic relations, according to an agreement reached at a meeting of Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Vladimir Voronin in Baku last Wednesday.
Voronin pointed to vast opportunities for boosting economic cooperation between the two countries. He said the joint projects to be implemented in the future would draw Azerbaijan and Moldova closer.
The Moldovan leader stressed that over 50 bilateral agreements have been signed to date, which has played a great role in the expansion of ties.
In conclusion of discussions, the two countries inked several documents on cooperation in a variety of fields spanning from fuel and energy to the protection of industrial property and joint combat against tax violations.
The two presidents told a joint news briefing that they had discussed cooperation in the energy sector, investment projects, as well as relations in the humanitarian field.
"We also considered issues of revitalizing political dialog, bilateral and regional cooperation," President Aliyev said.
Aliyev highlighted that his country's collaboration with Moldova was developing successfully.
"We attach tremendous importance to your visit. The two countries are enjoying high-level relations. Our cooperation within international organizations is successful as well," the Azerbaijani leader said.
Voronin stressed that Azerbaijan was rapidly developing, expressing confidence that the fast-growing South Caucasus republic would soon fill the ranks of the world's developed nations.
Voronin said he was visiting Baku for the second time and witnessed considerable changes in the city. "We are seeing a completely different city today," he added.
The Moldovan president wrapped up his official visit on Thursday after meeting with the Azerbaijani prime minister, parliament speaker and president of the state oil company SOCAR.
