France seeks to expand energy firms’ ops in Azerbaijan
France is seeking to expand the operation of its energy companies in resource-rich Azerbaijan, a senior French official has said.
Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Pierre Lellouche said in an interview with Moniteur du Commerce International (MOCI) magazine after last week’s meeting of the inter-governmental commission that his country would also like for its companies to operate in such fields as railways, subway, aviation, and waste management in Azerbaijan.
The article, "Azerbaijan takes care of French companies", says that France is the South Caucasus republic’s ninth biggest trading partner. It said France cannot catch up with Russia, Turkey, China, Germany and Italy on the volume of bilateral trade turnover. However, trade ties are expected to get a boost after French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s visit to Azerbaijan, scheduled for November 7.
Established in 1883, MOCI is France’s first international commercial magazine.
