BAKU – Azerbaijan’s leading cellular operator Azercell has been named one of the winners of a prestigious international business award, the company said.

Azercell Telecom LLC was included in the list of winners of International Business Awards, Stevie Awards, which was made public in late July.

The jury panel defined the names of the winners as an outcome of two months long research and announced the results of the International Business Awards 2011 contest. In the conditions of staunch competition, Azercell Telecom won the award in the nomination "The Communications and the PR Campaign of the Year: Community Relations".

Azercell gained this award thanks to its corporate social responsibility projects such as Mobile Dental Clinic and Children Hotline as well as the first station operating on wind and solar energy.

The title Stevie Award is derived from Stefan (translated from Greek as the Crowned). The 16 cm high golden statuette shows a man lifting the crystal pyramid in his hands. The company will also be granted a relevant certificate and a medal.

The aim of Stevie Award is to promote companies that gained success in countries around the world. The mission of this contest is to raise the profile of exemplary organizations and evaluate activities of individuals among the press, the business community, and the general public.

During the short period of time following its establishment, Stevie became one of the most important awards in the world’s business environment. The first presentation of American Business Awards took place in 2002. During the subsequent years, Stevie Award was presented to successful female business people and then, to organizations with optimal customer services.

Azercell Telecom was expected to be among the winners for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities because the company has implemented numerous projects in this field. Each year Azercell allocates millions to social projects and their value has now surpassed $14.7 million. Azercell ensures not only the financial support to the implementation of social projects, but also allocates technical, administrative and other resources. This June, a CSR training was organized for the first time for journalists on Azercell’s initiative. Also, training courses have been organized for media representatives to prepare professional articles in this field.
