Belarus-Azerbaijan trade turnover to top $1bn: envoy
BAKU – Azerbaijan-Belarus trade turnover is expected to exceed $1 billion this year, Belarusian Ambassador Nikolay Paskevich has said.
Paskevich told a press conference in Baku on Tuesday that bilateral trade made up $475 million in January-May, more than seven times over the same period of last year. The figure has surged due to transporting Azerbaijani oil to Belarus, which began in 2011, he said.
The ambassador said that in the first five months of the year Belarus exported goods totaling over $111 million to Azerbaijan, while Azerbaijani exports to his country made up $363 million.
According to Paskevich, Belarusian goods exported to the South Caucasus republic mainly include goods produced in the machine building and timber processing sectors, food and domestic appliances, while imports from Azerbaijan include oil, agricultural produce and synthetic fabric. Belarus is Azerbaijan’s sixth biggest trading partner.
