Kyrgyzstan aims to raise trade with Azerbaijan
BAKU – The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan made up $5.8 million in 2010, and the figure is low, Kyrgyz parliament speaker Ahmatbek Keldibekov said as he wrapped up his visit to Baku on Monday.
"Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan have great potential for cooperation," he told a news conference. "Kyrgyzstan is rich in natural resources, while Azerbaijan can invest heavily in this sector."
According to Keldibekov, a broad government delegation led by the Kyrgyz prime minister is expected to visit Azerbaijan soon to discuss development of bilateral relations.
Keldibekov also said Kyrgyzstan supports Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, and the country’s conflict with Armenia over Nagorno Karabakh must be resolved peacefully.
About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory has been under the occupation of Armenian armed forces since a fragile ceasefire was signed in 1994 following a brutal war.
