Agricultural output to grow 6 pct in 2011: Azeri govt
BAKU – Azerbaijan’s agricultural production is expected to increase 6 percent in 2011 "if the weather is suitable", Agriculture Minister Ismat Abbasov has said.
Abbasov told reporters Friday that an increase is predicted on all main agricultural products.
"Our task is to meet the demand for agricultural goods by means of domestic production. And this task will be fulfilled in the next few years."
According to the minister, Azerbaijan is expected to produce 2.5 million tons of grain this year, or 500,000 tons over 2010. The country’s current demand for grain is 3-3.2m tons.
"The remaining volume will be imported," Abbasov said. "Azerbaijan currently imports grain from Russia and Kazakhstan."
