Prices on downward trend in Azerbaijan: govt
BAKU – Deflation began in Azerbaijan in April despite rising world crude prices, head of the country’s statistics body has said.
Arif Valiyev told the press Tuesday that the oil price increase is affecting the inflation process "to a certain extent".
"But since April, we have seen deflation in the country, which will continue until September due to the reduction in the prices of seasonal goods [such as fruits and vegetables]. However, from September, we predict that consumer prices will rise again."
Domestic prices and service fees decreased 0.3 percent in April compared to March. The biggest reduction was reported on food prices – 0.7 percent.
Inflation made up 5.7 percent in Azerbaijan in 2010.
