15 sacked at Azeri property committee over violations
BAKU – 15 employees of Azerbaijan’s state committee on property have been dismissed over major shortfalls in their work. About 40 other workers were reprimanded, the committee chairman told a meeting on Monday.
The extraordinary meeting was called to fulfill the tasks outlined at a meeting of the Commission to Fight Corruption last week presided by Presidential Administration chief Ramiz Mehdiyev. Mehdiyev pointed to a number of shortfalls cited by President Ilham Aliyev at a cabinet meeting earlier in January.
Karam Hasanov, chairman of the State Committee on Property Issues, said a number of drawbacks had emerged with the privatization of property and registration of rights to real estate. He said tough and urgent action will be taken against the employees committing violations related to corrupt practices. He issued orders to expedite the consideration of incoming complaints over such violations and to prevent red tape.
Hasanov said oversight of the use of state property and management of state-run businesses should be streamlined, calling for tougher combat against corruption-related violations.
