Georgia sees Azerbaijan as a strategic economic partner
TBILISI – Azerbaijan plays the role of the "second strategic partner" in Georgia’s economic development next only to Turkey, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze has said.
Kalandadze told a news briefing that the Azerbaijani state energy firm SOCAR is implementing large-scale projects seeking to boost the development of the neighboring country’s economy.
"In addition to our friendly ties with Azerbaijan, we maintain economic relations. We will further strengthen these relations in the future."
Regarding the sell-off of the Russia-Armenia gas pipeline crossing Georgia, the deputy minister said talks on the issue were underway.
"The Azerbaijani side has made proposals on buying the pipeline as well. We hope that the results will be good."
