BAKU – Indian officials and businessmen visiting Azerbaijan have expressed interest in the country’s agriculture sector.

The delegation, led by Agriculture Minister of the Indian state of Punjab, Sucha Singh Langah, discussed agricultural cooperation issues during their meetings held in Baku on Thursday.

Langah said their visit would foster vast opportunities to expand economic relations between India and Azerbaijan.

"Indian businessmen are mostly interested in Azerbaijan’s trade and agriculture sectors. A particular focus is on conducting scientific research in the agriculture sector."

Langah said Indian entrepreneurs were chiefly seeking to exchange experience in the area of growing seeds of potatoes and other vegetables.

As for investments, the minister said this requires studying Azerbaijan’s laws first, after which investments could be made.

India has channeled hefty investments into the agriculture sectors of African and South American countries.
