Wages in Azerbaijan to rise 11 pct in 2011 - official

BAKU – Salaries in Azerbaijan will increase by around 11 percent in 2011, chairman of the State Social Protection Fund (SSPF) has said.

Salim Muslimov said in parliament Wednesday that according to the Economic Development Ministry’s projections, the increase will affect people holding permanent jobs. Muslimov said, however, that the measure is temporary as inflation is expected to be below projections this year.

The SSPF chairman noted that in 2010, the forecast on pay raises has not been justified either. He said that when economic projections were being drawn up last year, experts predicted an average rise of 16.9 percent during 2010. However, preliminary estimates suggest that salary increases will make up around 13 pct at the most.

Muslimov said the Fund expects the trend to last until 2012, but the situation will change for the better in the ensuing years.
