BAKU – The European Union and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection on Monday launched a new project to support the country's efforts to reform the social security system.

The 700,000 euros project will be implemented by the French Agency for the Development and Co-ordination of International Relations (ADECRI).

The 18 month-long twinning project envisages assistance to the labor ministry and other relevant public entities, in enhancing their capacity in data analysis, forecasting, monitoring, evaluation, social budgeting and strategic planning.

The initiative will help increase the level of cooperation between European and Azerbaijani administrations in the area of social protection.

French Ambassador in Baku Gabriel Keller said his country’s experience in the field will be studied and French experts will share their experience with Azerbaijani counterparts.

The EU Twinning Program is an instrument for targeted cooperation aimed at assisting the EU’s neighbors to strengthen their administrative and legal capacity to implement EU legislations. In practice, the tool serves to establishing strong relationships between similar governmental institutions in the EU’s 27 member states and the beneficiary country, stimulating training and exchange of experience between officials performing similar tasks.
