Turkish telecom giant seeks stake in Azeri firm
BAKU - Turkey’s telecommunications giant Turk Telecom will be involved in privatizing Azerbaijan’s state-owned Aztelecom phone and Internet service company, Turkish Transport and Communications Minister Binali Yildirim has said. The announcement came in a meeting with Ali Abbasov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Communication and Information Technologies.
Turk Telecom executives have held several meetings at the Azerbaijani ministry, which owns Aztelecom, and sought to acquire the company’s stock. "As a result of negotiations, [we can say that] we are ready to present a significant part of this company’s package of shares to Turk Telecom," Abbasov said.
Moreover, talks have been held with the Turkish company on ways of expanding the coverage and capacities of ADSL broad-band internet in Azerbaijan, and major changes are expected in the country in this area in the foreseeable future.
