Baku, Tbilisi keen to export power (UPDATED)

BATUMI - Azerbaijan and Georgia intend to export power, Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister Natig Aliyev told a news briefing in Batumi.

"This is one of our key projects and a 500-KWt power line is already under construction to implement it," he said.

After commissioning of the power line, Azerbaijan and Georgia will be able to supply electricity to Turkey and Iran, the Azeri minister said.

Georgia’s Prime Minister Nika Gelauri confirmed that his country is committed to complete the remaining 18-km of the Georgian section, pointing out that Georgia has extensive experience in the construction of power lines.

"This is a very important project, which will give us the opportunity to export extra power, mainly in summer," he said.
