UN ready to assist in boosting Azeri ICT
BAKU - The United Nations has expressed its readiness to
continue assisting the Azerbaijani government in developing
information and communication technologies, AzerTAj state news
agency reported.
"The Trans-Eurasia Super Information Highway project is an example
of this," the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Fikret Akcura
told journalists in Baku on Monday.
Akcura expressed confidence that the project would allow Azerbaijan
to play a key role in information exchanges between Europe and
Asia. "And this will boost Azerbaijan’s development and also
promote prosperity of the whole continent," he added.
Akcura is also Resident Representative for the United Nations
Development Program (UNDP) in Azerbaijan.
UNDP Azerbaijan is advocating for the development of Azerbaijan
based on converting the country’s "black gold" (oil) into "human
gold" (improved human capital). It is committed to bringing
knowledge, experience and resources to help the Azerbaijani people
to build a better life in partnership with the government and
international community.
