Turkmenistan’s multi-billion tourism zone was presented in Baku on Wednesday.
Addressing the ceremony, held by the Turkmen embassy, Ambassador Annamamed Mamedov said the Avaza zone was established by President Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov’s decision in July 2007. $23.6 billion will be invested to build it in 2010 and 2011.

The ambassador said the toruism zone being constructed encompases an area of 5,000 hectares and stretches for 26 kilometers along the Caspian shore. Upon completion of construction operations, Avaza will have the capacity to simultaneously accomodate 80,000 tourists. Also, to create micro-climate around the zone, forests will be planted in an area covering 1,300 hectares.
According to Mamedov, an artificial river that is 7 km long, 50 to 120 meters wide and flows into the Caspian has been created in the area as well.
There are six lakes and 11 beaches in the zone. Also, an international airport has already been commissioned there, Mamedov added.*
