IBA head elected CIS council`s first VP
Jahangir Hajiyev, chairman of the International Bank of Azerbaijan (IBA) steering board, has been elected First Vice-President of the CIS Financial and Banking Council (FBC), an institution set up by the former Soviet republics` major banks and other financial institutions to jointly facilitate integration within the Commonwealth. IBA is a co-founder and actively supports CIS FBC initiatives.
The FBC has recently held its annual meeting at the Alexanderhouse business center in Moscow, which was attended by the IBA`s board chairman as well as IBA Moscow`s board chairman and his consultant.
Addressing the meeting, Hajiyev praised the CIS body`s operation and made proposals for improvements in 2010. He welcomed the fact that Baku has been chosen as a venue for annual conferences of CIS financial institutions and voiced his support for the idea of expanding the format of this forum.
Considering expanding operations and the increasing number of participants and areas of activity, CIS banks adopted a new management structure, introducing the post of CIS FBC`s First Vice-President, which was unanimously granted to Hajiyev.
Also, the FBC will soon sponsor the Vienna economic forum of CIS and Eastern European states, entitled ``Innovations and investments: the role of financial institutions in the development of the Commonwealth countries` economies``.
