EBRD strategy aims to boost Azerbaijan’s non-oil growth
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
(EBRD) has announced it was drafting the preliminary version of a
new strategy on Azerbaijan seeking to boost the country’s non-oil
sector.
The bank’s president Thomas Mirow, who is visiting Baku, said the strategy, covering the period 2010-2013, envisions allocations for EBRD’s financial institutions, private businesses and infrastructure projects.
Mirow said the document is expected to cover implementing several projects in a wide range of fields including improvements in electric power distribution, increasing the number of power plants and expanding the facilities, overhauling and upgrading electricity supply networks.
Azerbaijan has been an EBRD member since 1992. The bank has financed 100 investment projects worth 1.4 billion euros in the country to date.
