Azerbaijan is rebuilding roadside tourist facilities on the northwest tourist route.

To this end, the State Tourism Agency jointly with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, as well as district executive authorities and the Azerbaijan State Agency of Automobile Roads have inspected roads in the regions, coordinator of the tourism project of the north-western direction Nizami Gasimov has told local media.

“There were 400 road objects in the territory of four districts, 280 of which have been redesigned and the rest have been either removed or built again. The work on the restoration of 150 objects has been completed, "Gasimov added.

It should be noted that tourism has been an important sector of the Azerbaijani economy since the 1990s. According to Azerbaijan's Center for Economic and Social Development, the country ranks 39th among 148 countries for tourism competitiveness indicators.

The World Travel and Tourism Council reported that Azerbaijan was among the top ten countries with the greatest increase in visitors from 2010 to 2016. The country had the world's fastest-developing travel and tourism economy (a 46.1% increase) in 2017, with a record-high number of 2.7 million foreign visitors.

Along with the capital Baku, Azerbaijan’s other cities and regions are also a tourist destination due to the resort areas with varied climates and a variety of flora and fauna in these regions.
