Kazakhstan awards road construction contract to Azeri firm
Azerbaijan’s Akkord group of companies has won a tender jointly with Turkey’s Okan Holding for a $157 million road construction project in Kazakhstan, Akkord said.
During the initial selection, companies upholding international standards were picked to participate in the tender. Further, over 30 firms from countries including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Germany, Iran, Turkey, Italy, China, South Korea, and India submitted proposals on pricing and their techniques.
The 2,787 km road is to be built under the South-West road construction project of the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) organization. It is part of the larger western Europe-western China project. The World Bank will channel most of the investment into the project. Construction work is due to begin in January 2010 and be completed in February 2013.*
