Azerbaijan says will export power to Europe
Azerbaijan will be able to export its electric power to Europe
through the networks of neighboring Georgia and Turkey in the
coming years, vice-president of the state-owned energy producer
Azerenergy has said.
According to Marlen Asgarov, the deliveries require installing high-voltage transmission lines and building appropriate energy infrastructure in the Georgian territory, which is possible no earlier than 2015.
Asgarov said the neighboring South Caucasus republic is holding a tender on creating the required infrastructure in the areas stretching to its border with Turkey, and Azerbaijan’s Azenco company will submit its bid.
The Azerenergy vice-president went on to say that Azerbaijan plans to start building 500 KVt electric transmission lines in 2010. Under the project, a line linking the "Azerbaijan" Thermal Power Station with a 500 KVt electricity substation in Georgia is to be laid.
Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey signed a memo this past April on implementing the Power Bridge project that envisions connecting the three countries’ electricity networks.*
