Azerbaijan’s currency stable in ‘09
The rate of Azerbaijan’s manat has decreased 0.3% against the US dollar in 2009, indicating that the national currency has remained stable throughout the year, according to Elman Rustamov, chairman of the Central Bank steering board.
Rustamov said in parliament Tuesday that the manat has strengthened about 1% against the currencies of most of Azerbaijan’s trading partners. The central banker said securing a stable rate of the national currency at a time of no budgetary growth has allowed increasing the earnings of citizens and ensuring stability of their bank deposits.
Rustamov said the government is determined to keep the manat robust in 2010, as this is a primary requirement for sustainable economic growth.*
