Joint food producing enterprises with Russia may be created in Azerbaijan

Female entrepreneurs of Azerbaijan and Russia held discussions related to the implementation of joint business ventures.

The negotiations are being held as part of the upcoming project, which envisages the creation of manufacturing enterprises, Sakina Babayeva, the head of the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Azerbaijan, told Trend.

"We are planning to establish a joint venture in Azerbaijan to produce food with our partners from Derbent. At present, we are conducting a detailed discussion of issues regarding the varieties of Azerbaijani food products that are in the greatest demand at the Russian market," she said.

Azerbaijan is one of the main economic partners of Russia among the CIS countries and Russia remains one of Azerbaijan’s main foreign trade partners. Russia ranks first in terms of export of non-oil products from Azerbaijan.

The trade turnover volume between the two countries reached $170 million in January 2019, which is four percent more than in January 2018.

According to the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia amounted to $2.55 billion in 2018, including export of Azerbaijani products worth $665.74 million to Russia.

Azerbaijan Women Entrepreneurs Association was established with the support of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs in October 2017, primarily aimed at strengthening the role of women in the field of entrepreneurship, as well as the dynamic development of small and medium-sized businesses in Azerbaijan.

For a short period of work, the Association has concluded memorandums of cooperation with the associations of women entrepreneurs of Russia, Georgia,Latvia, and plans to expand the cooperation with similar organizations in various states in the territory of the former Soviet Union.

Over 143,000 women are engaged in business in Azerbaijan, according to statistics.

Today, development of small and medium-sized businesses and improvement of women’s role in entrepreneurship are considered important directions of Azerbaijani economic policy.

Every day, the role of women in entrepreneurship and their number grows in the world. According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, the share of women among entrepreneurs is 21.5 percent.
