IBA widens range of e-banking services
On September 1, new types of services were proposed by the International Bank of Azerbaijan as part of its electronic banking development strategy, according to the head of the IBA press-service, Rauf Agayev.
Of note, IBA has begun offering remote air ticket purchasing services using computers, ATMs, booths, and cellular phones. Thus, IBA and SilkWay Travel company`s customers may call the travel company and then, using IBA networks, make a ticket purchase without leaving their home or office.
Agayev also noted that IBA has expanded the range of services within the MobilBank service. Whereas before, users could pay only for the services of the Azercell mobile communications operator and electricity bills in Baku, the range of services now includes the Elcel and Azeronline internet providers, Aztelecom company and SilkWay Travel agency. In addition, IBA customers may perform the CardTransfer- card-to-card transfer using mobile-banking.
According to the IBA press-service, over the two to three year period, positive growth has been seen in electronic payments and transfers. In 2007, the total number of operations performed was 243,800, totaling 4.88 million manats ($6.1 million). In 2008, 366,300 transactions were carried out (33.4% growth) and their total amount increased by 7.97m manats ($9.96m). The positive dynamics has been maintained in 2009. In the past half-year alone, the total amount of transactions stands at 6.4m manats ($8m) and the number of operations increased to 244,000. Compared to the same period last year, the number of transactions and their amount have increased by 1.4 and 2 times respectively.
