Azerbaijan, Israel agree to continue flights
Flights to Israel on Azerbaijan`s state airline,
AzAL, will be continued, according to an agreement reached by the
company`s president, Jahangir Asgarov, and representatives of the
Israeli Civil Aviation Authority at a meeting recently held in
Baku, AzAL said.
Asgarov said that, moreover, safety will be fully ensured for the
Arkia Israeli Airlines, which is seeking to launch a flight to Baku
soon.
The parties have been in talks since July on opening Tel-Aviv-Baku
flights. Arkia had said it intended to ensure security at the
Heydar Aliyev International Airport of Baku on its own, but
Azerbaijan disagreed with the condition, saying the airport is
protected in line with international standards. In response, Israel
announced it would suspend AzAL`s flights from August, and again
from September 20.
In some airports, the safety of Israeli airlines is provided by the
country`s security services.
Baku-Tel-Aviv flights are currently scheduled on Wednesdays and
Sundays. A ticket costs 417 manats ($521). AzAL has been offering
these flights for ten years.
