Korean group aims to improve Azerbaijan`s irrigation system
Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and
Azerbaijan have signed a grant agreement under a $3.4 million
project aiming to improve the country`s irrigation system.
The grant arrangement for KOICA`s "Project for a feasibility study and detailed design for upgrading the water intake structure at northern rivers and improvement of the Absheron main canal for irrigation in Azerbaijan", was signed by Korean Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Lew Kwang-Chul, and the Chairman of Amelioration and Water Farm Open Joint Stock Company, Ahmad Ahmadzade, says Kim Young-Woo, Resident Representative of KOICA office in Azerbaijan.
KOICA, which plays a key role in governmental grant aid programs, launched the project on behalf of the Republic of Korea and selects Korea Engineering Consultants Corporation (KECC), which is responsible for the development of the Korean irrigation system and engineering technology.
The activities include a training program for Azerbaijan officials; providing necessary surveying equipment; the transfer of skills about cultivation, and support for restructuring farmers` associations. The development of irrigated lands will allow for improving the living standards of the population and the efficient use of water resources in the peninsula.
KOICA aims at strengthening partnerships and promoting mutual exchanges with developing countries, assisting their economic and social development, and thereby fostering international development cooperation.
KECC, in cooperation with KOICA, has been implementing overseas projects for a feasibility study and detailed design of irrigation systems by sharing experience and offering collateral education programs to the countries that lack an irrigation system.
