Azerbaijan, Latvia to increase international transport

Bilateral transportation between Azerbaijan and Latvia and ‘permits’ for transit will be increased by another 20 percent in 2019.
The agreement on this was reached at the meeting of the Azerbaijan-Latvia Joint Commission on international road transport between the two countries, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies informed on July 2.
The Azerbaijani delegation at the meeting was headed by Habib Hasanov, head of the State Road Transport Service under the Ministry, while the Latvian delegation was headed by Talivaldis Vectirans, Director of the Road Transport Department of the Latvian Transport Ministry.
Hasanov spoke about large-scale projects implemented in Azerbaijan in recent years, Azerbaijani-Latvian bilateral relations, innovations in the road transport structure and regional projects.
Vectirans, in turn, informed about the laws adopted in the field of international road transport in recent years, the implementation of the new system of road taxes, as well as the use of digital tachographs recording mode of work and rest of drivers.
At the end of the meeting, the parties signed a protocol.
Latvia recognized the independence of Azerbaijan in 1992, and two years later, the sides started diplomatic relations. Latvia considers Azerbaijan an important partner in the field of transit and logistics in the South Caucasus region.
Priority areas of cooperation between the two countries include joint investment projects, effective use of international transportation corridors, education, agriculture, construction, tourism and health, as well as some other fields.
