IBA offers SMS notification service
Electronic banking is a high-tech service provided
to customers by the International Bank of Azerbaijan (IBA), the
country`s leading bank, which allows processing transactions
remotely in real-time with the use of bank cards and a broad
network of automatic teller machines, the bank`s information
kiosks, as well as Internet Banking and MobilBank systems.
IBA continues expanding electronic banking services, including both simple tasks such as checking account balances and receipt of account statements and more complicated services such as the transfer of funds from one bank card to another, paying electricity bills, as well as landline and cellular communication fees, and Internet access.
A new service, SMS Notification, will enable IBA clients and users of cellular operator Azercell to receive notifications about all account transactions conducted with their plastic cards in real time. Immediately after the transaction has gone through, and regardless of whether it resulted in a deduction of funds, the customer receives an SMS notification on his mobile phone. Thus, IBA customers will be able to obtain information about the payment of their wages, receipt of money transfers, expenses and other transactions with their plastic cards. The plastic card account is tracked by the client 24/7, regardless of location and time.
The SMS Notification service is a one-of-a-kind simplified version of the innovative MobilBank service introduced in January 2008. MobilBank allows, in addition to being notified about bank account activity, to make payments by using a cellular phone. Clients who have joined the service have the opportunity to receive account statements and SMS messages on each transaction carried out, check account balances and pay electricity bills. While joining the MobilBank service requires applying to Azercell for a replacement of the cellular phone Sim card with a specially-programmed card, and then to the bank to activate the service, SMS-Notification makes banking much easier.
Electronic banking services also include payment of fees for cellular providers Azercell, Bakcell and NarMobile, insurance policies from the International Insurance Company, fees from Internet service providers, as well as other bills.
According to the IBA press-service, this service is increasingly popular with customers as seen by the increasing numbers signing up during the past two years. Thus, where 243,800 transactions worth 4.88 million manats ($6.1 million) were carried out through all types of e-banking in 2007, the number of these transactions grew 33.4% to 366,300 in 2008, with their total reaching 7.97m manats, a 38.8% increase over the previous year. Of note, though the overwhelming majority of the transactions included payments for landline and cellular phone bills, over half of the amount of all transactions was made up by the CardTransfer services involving transfers between plastic cards.
