Azerbaijan, UN plan to implement new projects worth $18M

Azerbaijan and the UN plan to implement projects worth more than $18 million in 2018 within the framework agreement on partnership, Deputy Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Sevinj Hasanova said on June 12.
She made the remarks in Baku at a meeting of the Management Committee established under the agreement.
Hasanova reminded that projects worth $16.5 million were implemented in 2017 within this document.
“As many as 47 projects have already been implemented within this platform. The total cost of projects under the signed agreement is $72 million,” the deputy economy minister said.
She added that the projects cover three main areas – the first one is the diversification of the economy and ensuring decent work, the second one is improving the institutional capacity and quality of services provided to citizens, and the third area is risk assessment in connection with environmental problems and improving governance in this area.
Soon after the restoration of its independence, Azerbaijan became a member of the UN in 1992. From the very beginning of its membership in the UN, Azerbaijan has been working actively to develop mutual relations and to diversify the cooperation with the organization.
Presently, Azerbaijan has special links with the appropriate UN agencies and bodies, such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Different projects and programs aimed at improving the living standards, structural adjustments of the economy are carried out in close cooperation with them.
