Ukraine`s Aerosvit Airlines plans to begin flights to Azerbaijani regions in 2010, the head of the company`s local office has said.
Alexander Lisovik said the airline, which has been in business since 1994, is looking into the possibility of opening direct flights to Ganja, Azerbaijan`s second largest city, and then to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
According to Lisovik, it is important to link Baku with cities in Ukraine that are often Azerbaijani vacation destinations.
"A great number of Azerbaijani citizens prefer to go for vacation to Ukrainian resorts, and Lviv in particular. This flow currently amounts to 50-70 people a day. That`s why we do not rule out creating direct air transportation between Baku and Lviv fairly soon."
Lisovik said Aerosvit Airlines currently offers five Kyiv-Baku flights per week, but the company is seeking to schedule them on a daily basis.
He emphasized that the number of passengers flying from Kyiv to Baku is increasing. Indeed, the figure rose 57 percent in January-May compared to the same period in 2008.
Aerosvit Airlines opened a ticket office and customer care center in Baku last Wednesday.
