Relations between Azerbaijan, Netherlands gain momentum

Relations between the Netherlands are developing on a growing basis, in various spheres of the economy, and in politics and tourism.
Charge d’Affaires of Azerbaijan in the Kingdom of the Netherlands Jalal Mirzoyev said that the level of trade turnover between the Netherlands and Azerbaijan increased 12 times in 2017 compared to 2016.
Currently, more than 125 companies with the capital from the Netherlands operate in Azerbaijan in the field of trade, services, insurance, industry, construction, transport and other spheres.
The Netherlands has invested almost $800 million in the non-oil sector of the Azerbaijani economy in total, according to Mirzoyev.
“Currently there are regular flights on cargo transportation “Maastrixt”-“Baku Cargo.” In the near future there is provision for the establishment of passenger transportation, which, in turn, will be the impetus for the development of cooperation in the field of tourism,” Mirzoyev stressed.
The Ambassador also pointed out that the relations between Azerbaijan and the Netherlands are developing in various directions and high-level visits, meetings, signed documents play an important role in strengthening the ties between the two countries.
Over 1,400 European companies operate in Azerbaijan. According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, by the end of 2017 the trade with the countries of the European Union amounted to $9.394 billion, or 41.6 percent of the total turnover.
The share of exports of Azerbaijani products to the EU countries amounted to $7.452 billion, or 53.9 percent of all exports, while imports of European goods to the country amounted to $1.942 billion, or 22.1 percent of all imports.
It is noteworthy that the share of the Netherlands in the trade with the EU is growing every year.
Kingdom of the Netherlands recognized the independence of Azerbaijan in December 31, 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in April 1, 1992.
In recent years bilateral economic missions, business forums, as well as other activities organized with support of the Embassy opened a new phase in practical cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Netherlands.
Earlier, it was reported that Azerbaijan and the Netherlands may open joint trading houses to demonstrate benefits of cooperation in agriculture and many other spheres.
