Azerbaijan, Georgia to export electricity to Turkey
According to a recently signed agreement, Azerbaijan
and Georgia will export electricity to Turkey, the president of
state-owned energy producer Azerenergy, Etibar Pirverdiyev, told
journalists.
Pirverdiyev described the "Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey energy bridge project" as being in the interests of the three countries. However, Turkey has to resolve several problems for energy exports to take place. Besides, the electricity transmission system that once existed between Azerbaijan and Georgia needs to be rebuilt, according to Pirverdiyev. Also, to adapt the 500 KWt electricity sent from Azerbaijan to the Turkish system, it should be reduced into 400 KWt. To do this, a new transformer sub-station needs to be built in Georgia.
Turkey is currently in need of Azerbaijani and Georgian electricity. As part of the project, Azerbaijan will export 450 MWt and Georgia 150 MWt to Turkey.
