French company to build waste plant
An agreement on building a domestic waste processing plant in Baku has been signed with France`s CNIM S.A. (Constructions Industrielles de la Mediterranee S.A.), according to Azerbaijan`s Economic Development Ministry. Under the turn-key agreement, the company will operate the facility for 20 years.
Plans call for waste accruing from residential areas in and around the capital city to be burned at the plant.
CNIM S.A. is one of the world`s leading companies in the fields of environmental protection, energy production and mechanical engineering. The company, which has 50-years of experience in the waste processing field and has implemented similar projects in countries including Britain, Belgium, Russia, Spain and Portugal, will also carry out recycling or waste.
The plant, with an annual capacity allowing it to burn 500,000 tons of waste, will be constructed in accord with up-to-date technologies and the European Union`s operational and environmental standards. Ashes left after the waste burning are to be used in road construction.
Construction work is due to be completed in three years.
