IBA assesses development of electronic banking
Electronic banking is the high-tech line of banking services rendered by the International Bank of Azerbaijan that enables to effect bank transactions remotely, on real-time basis, with the use of bankcards, and through a wide network of automatic teller machines (ATM), the Bank`s information booths, as well as the systems of "Internet banking" and MobilBank.
Traditionally, IBA places a high emphasis on the development of electronic banking services both by continuously improving the already available ones and introducing new services. Thus, by using an automatic teller machine, an information booth, a personal computer, and even a cellular phone, clients have the opportunity to check their bank account balance, retrieve bank statements, transfer money from one bank card to another, convert currency, and pay bills for electricity, fixed location and cellular phone services, as well as Internet access.
In 2008 alone, the Bank introduced four new services in the area of electronic banking in addition to the available ones.
Thus, in January 2008, the innovative service of MobilBank, which had been developed by the Bank jointly with Azericard, its affiliated structure, and Azercell, a cellular communication operator, was introduced. The service enables to effect bank transactions by using a cellular phone. Those clients who have connected to this service are able to get bank statements and SMS messages about every transaction conducted, check the balances on bank accounts, as well as pay for cellular communication services (Azercell) and settle electricity bills.
In July, the Bank and its affiliated insurance company (International Insurance Company, IIC) announced the implementation of a joint project, the essence of which was that all clients who used IBA plastic cards were allowed to pay insurance premiums with regard to all types of insurance via the IBA`s automatic teller machines. The clients of IIC already had an opportunity to pay insurance premiums via any branch of IBA, nevertheless, the new service had further simplified this process by saving the time the client spends in queues almost to a minimum.
That same month, the Bank signed an agreement with Azerfon company, thereby granting its clients who were subscribers of NarMobile an opportunity to pay for Azerfon services at any time of the day by using plastic cards through more than 598 automatic teller machines and 64 information booths of the Bank, as well as by means of the e-banking system.
Also in July, a month that was eventful for the Bank, the Bank submitted an updated and more convenient version of the popular Internet banking system for its clients` consideration. The new version enabled users to log on to the system via IBA automatic teller machines and information booths without visiting the Bank`s offices. The system makes it possible to manage bank accounts, take advantage of all kinds of payments, and obtain detailed information about the transactions conducted and the status of the card account.
Finally, in late December, the Bank announced, jointly with Elcell, an Internet provider, a new service dealing with payments for the company`s mobile Internet service, through the network of automatic teller machines and information booths.
