Over 2,000 sacked over global downturn, officials say

Azerbaijan`s labor market, causing businesses to terminate
employment contracts with over 2,000 employees. The figure was
revealed as a result of monitoring conducted in companies and
organizations, Minister of Labor and Social Security Fizuli
Alakbarov has said.
The research was carried out in 3,463 out of about 50,000 businesses operating in the country. The dismissed workers account for slightly less than 1% of the workforce in all the businesses monitored, which totals 244,000.
The most problems are being experienced by export-oriented enterprises, according to the minister.
