Climbers from Azerbaijan have hoisted the flag of the 42nd World Chess Olympiad, to be held this September in Baku, on the highest mountain peak of Europe – Mount Elbrus.
The Mount Elbrus, the tenth most prominent peak in the world with height of 5,642 meters, is a twin peaked volcano glacier.
Technical Director of Baku Crystal Hall Elchin Mammadov and Director of R-Com Company Tural Mammadov conquered the Mount Elbrus to honor the Chess Olympiad.
There they raised Azerbaijan’s tricolor flag, as well as the flags of Crystal Hall and the 42nd World Chess Olympiad at the top of the mountain.
With 2,000 chess masters from 180 counties, FIDE’s biennial chess tournament, will gather teams from all over the world to compete for the best title.
The opening ceremony of the Olympiad will be held in the National Gymnastics Arena, while charming Crystal Hall, once hosting Eurovision Song Contest in 2012, will host the games.
The Olympiad, scheduled for September 1-14, will take place in the Crystal Hall, once hosting Eurovision Song Contest in 2012.
