International organizations criticized for silence over numerous human rights violations in Armenia

The Azerbaijani parliamentarian has criticized the international organizations for turning a blind eye to the gross violation of human rights in Armenia.

International organizations do not respond to numerous human rights violations taking place in Armenia on these days, which shows the use of double standards by international organizations, chairman of the parliamentary committee on international ties and interparliamentary relations, MP Samed Seyidov said.

"People in Armenia are detained, shot, beaten, arrested, but for some reason we do not hear serious allegations from international organizations, such as Amnesty International, Human Rights," he emphasized.

All of these show that international organizations have lost their credibility and, henceforth, they will not be able to organize their activities with other countries, said the head of the Committee.

Absence of any reaction to serious violations of human rights in Armenia by these organizations proves that international organizations intend to hide ongoing events in the country from the international community, said Seyidov.

He linked such a standpoint by international organizations regarding the current events in Armenia with the activities of the Armenian lobby, which has leverage over them.

"No international organization has right to use human rights for political purposes and carry out the policy of double standards," noted Seyidov.

On the morning of July 17, an armed attack to the patrol police took place in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia-Yerevan. The gunmen took hostages and demanded the resignation of President Serzh Sargsyan, as well as, the release of Zhirayr Sefilyan, who is the leader of the radical opposition of the Front of National Salvation "New Armenia", who is accused of illegal acquisition and possession of weapons. The hostages were released on July 23, whilst an armed group still remains in the patrol building of Yerevan police.

At least 50 people, including 25 officers, were wounded in Armenia after a night of clashes between police and protests linked to a four-day hostage, the country's health ministry said.
