Azerbaijan  ready to participate in modernization of Ukraine's energy sector

Azerbaijan is ready to participate in the modernization of the energy sector of Ukraine.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Ukraine Azer Khudiyev made the remark in an interview to Kyiv TV channel, noting that the Ukrainian capital will host negotiations on the development of cooperation between the parties in the energy sector on March 29.

During the negotiations Azerbaijan will be represented by officials of the Energy Ministry and representatives of SOCAR.

"Specific projects on cooperation will be discussed. In particular, Azerbaijan is ready to share with Ukraine experience in the modernization of the energy sphere," Khudiyev said.

Azerbaijan considers it important to develop cooperation with Ukraine in all spheres, according to the diplomat.

Among the priority areas the ambassador named aircraft construction, light industry, engineering, car building and transport.

Khudiyev noted that the prospects for cooperation between the two countries were discussed in mid-March during a visit of a government delegation headed by Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev to Ukraine. Along with him, representatives of about 50 large Azerbaijani companies visited Kiev and got acquainted with the possibilities of establishing business ties with Ukrainian companies.

Azerbaijan and Ukraine reached an agreement on expanding cooperation in the areas of trade, engineering, chemical and food industries, metallurgy, pharmaceuticals, production of building materials and processing of agricultural products. The sides also noted the possibility of expanding ties in the field of transit.

Trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $334.18 million in 2016, while $44.4 million fell on the export of Azerbaijani products to Ukraine, according to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.

Almost 130 documents have been signed, including a joint declaration on strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Ukraine.

Azerbaijan is one of the main trade partners of Ukraine among the CIS countries. Trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $334.18 million in 2016, according to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.
