Azerbaijan’s 24 Paralympic athletes will vie for medals at the 15th Summer Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

President of Azerbaijan National Paralympic Committee, Ilgar Rahimov announced about this at a press conference on July 22, Azertac reported.

He noted the Azerbaijani para-athletes earned 41 berths in 6 sports.

The country will be represented by 56 sportsmen at the 31st Summer Olympic Games scheduled for August 5-21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The 2016 Summer Olympics is a major international multi-sport event in the tradition of the Olympic Games that will take place in Brazilian Rio de Janeiro from August 5 to August 21, 2016. More than 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees are expected to join this big sporting event.

The National Paralympic Committee, representing the country in the international paralympic movement, was established in 1996. The same year, two Azerbaijani paralympans joined the X Summer Paralympics in Atlanta, the U.S..

Since then, Azerbaijani sportsmen could gain 27 medals in total, which include 8 gold, 10 silver and 9 bronze medals.
