International Chess Day marked PHOTO

A tournament dedicated to the International Chess Day marked on July 20 was held at the Russian Information and Cultural Center in Baku, Trend reported.
The tournament was held on the eve of the 42nd World Chess Olympiad in Baku, which will bring together about 2,000 chess masters from 180 countries.
Deputy head of the Russian cooperation agency in Azerbaijan Aleksey Konnov, addressing the event, congratulated all the participants and wished them excitement, optimism, love, and loyalty to game of chess.
Head of the chess section of the center Alexander Kosolapov spoke about the development of chess in Baku, on the outstanding success of Russia and Azerbaijan in the international chess arena.
The event featured a questionnaire survey on the history of chess. Guests made predictions of the outcome of the Baku Chess Olympiad.
Nikolay Neverov, Rufat Guliyev and Anton Shulgin won the tournament. The chess players were awarded certificates and gifts. All participants received commemorative certificates.
The International Chess Day is celebrated annually on July 20, the day the International Chess Federation (FIDE) was founded, in 1924. The idea to celebrate this day as the international chess day was proposed by UNESCO.
FIDE, which has 181 chess federations as its members, organizes chess events and competitions around the world on this day.
