National karate fighter wins bronze in France

The Karate1 Premier League was held in Paris, France on January 23-25 bringing together 888 athletes from 67 nations.

Azerbaijan’s team opened its new season participating in this grandiose competition. Some 20 sportsmen represented the country in the competition.

Shakhin Atamov at +84 kg took the bronze medal, defeating five athletes.

However, Rafael Agayev at 75 kg, returning to the action after long break could not gain a medal. The multiple World and European Champion lost on the fifth round of the tournament.

In the team competition on the kumite, the national team reached 1/4 final, where it gave way to a team from Germany.

The next Karate1 Premier League event will be held in Almere, Netherlands on February 14-15.
