Azerbaijani athletes claim world gold

The United States hosted Men's and Women's World Championships
on November 2-8, where Azerbaijan grabbed six gold and one silver
medals.
Hafiz Verdiyev climbed on to the winner`s rostrum in the men`s 100
kg weight category, while Ibrahim Ibrahimov emerged victorious in
the 110 kg class.
Gunel Talibova added third gold to Azerbaijan`s medal haul in the
women`s 56 kg division.
Meanwhile, the World Powerlifting Congress (WPC) also announced that Azerbaijan will host Powerlifting World Championships in 2017.
Azerbaijan`s bid was supported by the majority of the WPC member states.
Earlier in June, the European Powerlifting Championships was also held in Baku.
Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. As in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, it involves lifting weights in three attempts.
The World Powerlifting Congress was established by Ernie Frantz in 1986. It also known as the WPC, consists of 30 countries worldwide that participate in annual World Championships.
