Azerbaijani boxing team to join Summer Universiade 2013

The Azerbaijani boxing squad to compete in the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia, from July 6-17, 2013, has been announced, Azertag state news agency reported on July 4.

The national team will include Araz Imamaliyev weighing in at 49kg, Tural Akhmedov at 52 kg, Javid Chalabiyev at 56 kg, Heybatulla Hajialiyev at 64 kg, Elnur Suleymanov at 69 kg, Emil Akhmedov at 75 kg, Rauf Rahimov at 81, Abdulgadir Abdullayev at 91 kg and Kamran Mehdiyev in up to 91 kg.

The boxing tournament will run from July 6 till July 10.

The Summer Universiade is an international sporting and cultural festival which is staged every two years in a different city and which is second in importance only to the Olympic Games. Governed by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the aim of the universiade is to promote international peace and cultural exchange among young people through sport.

The universiade`s compulsory sports include Athletics, Basketball, Diving, Fencing, Football, Gymnastics (Artistic, Rhythmic), Swimming, Tennis, Volleyball and Water Polo.
The 2013 hosts have also elected to include Table Tennis, Judo, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Belt Wrestling, Canoe Sprint, Chess, Field Hockey, Rowing, Rugby 7's, Sambo, Sport Shooting, Synchronised Swimming, Weightlifting, Wrestling and Boxing.
