Azerbaijani judoka wins Olympic gold

Azerbaijani judoka Vugar Talibov became a winner of the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

In the final bout, Talybov met with Russian Abrek Naguchevi. A fifteen-year-old Azerbaijani athlete won in 2 minutes 3 seconds using ippon technique.

“I am very happy, mostly because I brought the first gold medal to Azerbaijan. I thank the leadership of the federation and everyone who works with me,” he said.

The judoka Vugar Talibov won the gold medal in the weight category up to 66 kilograms. He became the first Azerbaijani junior judoka to win gold at the Olympic Games.

He defeated Ahad Al-Sagyra from Yemen, then took up over the athlete from Tajikistan Jamshed Suleymonini. In the semifinal, Talibov defeated Antonio Tornal from the Dominican Republic.

The third Summer Youth Olympic Games are being held in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on October 6-18, 2018. The three-day long judo tournament has kicked off on October 7.
