National GM shows his best in Paris

Azerbaijani chess player Namig Guliyev won the fourth round of the Paris Chess Championship.

The grandmaster defeated the Egyptian Hatim Ibragimov. Guliyev scored 3.5 points and he is half a point behind the leader from France Belela Balanchine, azerisport.com.

The tournament will brought together 60 chess players, including 10 grandmasters.

Azerbaijan also pins hopes for goods results from Gadir Huseynov and Orkhan Abdulov.

The Swiss system tournament features nine rounds.

Namig Guliyev played for Azerbaijan in the Chess Olympiads of 1994 and 2006.

In 2012, he won the second place at the International Chess Tournament in Geneva. In the final round, Guliyev beat Andrea Prinetti, scoring 5.5 points out of seven possible.

Chess for centuries has been a popular game in Azerbaijan with ancient roots closely related to traditions.

The 42nd Chess Olympiad, which took place in Baku, is indeed an excellent example of great attention paid to the development of chess game in the country.

The first World Chess Olympiad in Azerbaijan was arranged at the Baku Crystal Hall, bringing together 2,000 chess masters from 175 countries.
