One of Turkey’s biggest global music stars, Tarkan, will be the headliner on the opening night of the second Grand Prix weekend to take place in Baku on June 23-25.
Baku City Circuit (BCC) announced that on June 23, one of the region’s most successful entertainers will take the custom designed and built Main Stage on the newest street circuit in F1 to round up the first day of the 2017 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Born in Germany and raised in Turkey, Tarkan has achieved multi-platinum status with sales well in excess of 29 million albums and singles – an achievement made all the more remarkable since only a handful of his songs recorded in his 20-plus year career have been sung in English.
Building upon a solid melodic line based on his Turkish roots, Tarkan's music draws upon influences ranging far and wide, from the timeless, hypnotic sounds of the Middle East to the most up-to-the-moment cutting edge Western rock, pop and dance. Tarkan weaves these diverse melodies and beats into a magical tapestry of sound that is truly all his own. The one constant throughout his music and his live performances is a great rhythm. Today, from Europe to Asia to Australia and Latin America, Tarkan continues to connect with a multinational and multicultural audience in the millions. It's because he has that uncanny ability to write and perform songs that seem to anticipate the mood of his fans, vast and diverse as they are, while at the same time staying true to his soulful Turkish roots.
All Formula 1 fans in the region are in line for a special night of high energy and soulful music and entertainment to kick off their Grand Prix weekend. Tarkan's music and enthralling persona will give the F1 concertgoers an evening they will not forget in a hurry.
Speaking right after Tarkan was confirmed as the opening musical act for the 2017 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix was confirmed, BCC’s Executive Director Arif Rahimov, commented: “In the world of pop music and entertainment, there are successful singers and entertainers, and then there's that rare performer who manages to capture the imagination and touch the hearts of people across continents, cultures and languages. Today, the only name that even comes close to claiming the title of international superstar from Turkey is Tarkan and we are delighted to welcome him to Baku to open our live music entertainment programme on the Friday night of the 2017 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. We are lining up an incredible weekend of action and entertainment for fans to mark the second visit of F1 to our beautiful city and I couldn’t think of anyone better than Tarkan to get the party started. Make sure you join us in Baku and get your tickets while you still can!”
All ticket holders will have free access to the concerts. Fans with four-day tickets will additionally be able to enjoy an exclusive Pit Lane Walk on Thursday 22nd June, while all ticket holders will get access to the drivers via daily Autograph Sessions and will also be entertained throughout the weekend via a series of entertainment activities located along the circuit’s vending zones situated along Baku’s stunning seaside boulevard.
