"Youth Cup" starts in Baku [PHOTO]

An opening ceremony of "Youth Cup" has been held in Baku.

The project, supported by the ‘IRELI' Public Union and the Youth and Sports Ministry, is held in connection with the Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games.

The main goal of the project is to promote sports, healthy lifestyle, fruitful leisure among youth, as well as to support the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku.

Executive Director of the Youth Foundation under the President of Azerbaijan Farhad Hajiyev, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Intigam Babayev, Executive Director of Islamic Solidarity Games Operations Committee Elchin Safarov and Chairman of the "Ireli" Mmirgasan Seyidov have addressed the event and stressed the high- level organization of the Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games.

The ceremony continued with the draw of "Youth Cup", which brings together teams from different universities of the country, including AU-Armada, BANM-Nightmare, ASTU-Texno, ADPU-Paradox, Azerbaijan state economic University-Economist, AzMIU-Black knights, ADNSU-Boomerang, DIAMETER Icomparable, rector of the Rixos, the Caspian-Challengers, BSU-Threat, ISLAND-Island, ATMU-Universal and BSU-Slavic jaguars.

A number of competitions within the Cup will be broadcasted through radio IRƏLI Radio (Iradio.az).

The Baku 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games is an exciting multi-sport event uniting the Islamic world, which will take place from 12 – 22 May 2017.

Athletes from Islamic countries around the world will be representing their nations over 10 days of competition across 20 different sports which include 23 disciplines (Athletics and Para Athletics, Aquatics – Diving, Aquatics – Swimming, Aquatics – Water Polo, Basketball 3x3, Football, Gymnastics – Artistic, Gymnastics – Rhythmic, Wushu, Table Tennis, Handball, Judo and Blind Judo, Wrestling – Greco, Wrestling – Freestyle, Shooting, Tennis, Volleyball, Boxing, Zurkhaneh, Karate, Taekwondo and Weightlifting) in 16 world-class sporting venues in Baku.

Azerbaijan’s capital city Baku was awarded the Games at the General Assembly of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) in Jeddah in July 2013.
