Five Azerbaijani athletes to compete at Rio Olympics today

Five Azerbaijani athletes will be in action in four sports as the Summer Olympic Games in Rio enter Day 13.

Valentin Demyanenko will compete in the men's canoe single 200m final, while Inna Osipenko-Radomska will race in the final of the women's kayak single (K-1) 500m.

Female wrestler Natalya Shinshin will launch her medal quest in the women`s 53kg class.

Rostyslav Pevtsov will compete in the men`s triathlon event.

Boxer Kamran Shahsuvarly will be in action the men's middle (75kg) semifinal.

Azerbaijan’s Olympic team includes six freestyle wrestlers, eight Greco-Roman wrestlers, 11 boxers, six judoists, five oarsmen, four athletes, four taekwondo fighters, three gymnasts, three cyclists, two swimmers and one athlete per each in fencing, triathlon, archery and shooting. The country is represented for the first time in triathlon, archery, track cycling and canoe slalom.

Of those fifty six athletes, thirty six participate in Olympic Games for the first time.

Azerbaijan is also represented by three referees at competitions in wrestling, gymnastics and boxing. The national team is accompanied by 34 coaches, six doctors, physiotherapists and technicians.
